GUA Airport Overview
Below is a quick run-down on what to expect during your time at Guatemala City La Aurora International Airport (IATA: GUA).
What to Expect
GUA has a main terminal plus a smaller regional facility. The primary complex contains two concourses—Central (for wide-body aircraft) and North. Only ticketed passengers may enter the building, and police presence is visible. Free airport Wi-Fi helps pass the time and economy-class flyers can purchase access to pay-in lounges.
Sleeping in Guatemala City Airport
The terminal is officially not open to overnight sleepers, and police will ask non-ticketed travelers to leave at closing time. Skip the hassle and check the Airport Hotels section—some properties run complimentary shuttles.
Read the latest traveler reviews for recent tips, or help other flyers by writing a review.
Throughout this guide “landside” refers to the public area before security, while “airside” indicates the secure zone after the checkpoint.

Security & Safety
Airport snoozing carries risk, especially solo. Basic precautions:
- Know where security is and look for cameras.

- Conceal valuables; lock your bag to fixed objects if you’re a deep sleeper.
- Stay alert if you feel unsafe; caffeine helps, and sleep can wait for the flight.
